A NAME FOR EVIL (1973)

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011
Quite an unusual piece of early 70’s horror hokum with one of my favourite genre actors (Robert Culp). What starts out as a standard vengeful spooky yarn turns into a giddy, entertaining psychedelic cut and paste freak show. ‘A name For Evil’ was a little more than I expected. In my humble opinion most of the online reviews seem to be far harsher than the film deserves. The photography and soundtrack are absolutely first rate; and I for one really dug the wild neo-hippy tangent midway through. It is the very incongruous nature of the film’s elastic narrative that I found so very appealing.

LA MALDICION DE LA BESTIA (aka) WEREWOLF & THE YETI (1975)

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Zesty and entertaining Waldermar Kandinsky yarn with the legendary Naschy in fine form here leaping around the Alps in order to tear out the throats of hapless bandits by day; and by night, baring his power-lifter chest that he might better ravish as many nubile Spanish fillies as is possible!

Neat-o heft of late-60’s exploitation with very ‘John Waters’ acting from Garfield & Hopkins.

Solid heft of 70’s US ‘Namsploitation.
