Renowned and profoundly talented Italian director Ettore Scola directs another fine entry within the giddy idiom of iconoclastic Italian crime cinema. ‘Il Commissario Pepe’ is replete with yet another gonzoid performance from that most robust of performers Ugo Tognazzi, delirious eye candy is supplied by the delicious euro-babe Silvia Dionisio, with solid funk Grooves supplied by groove-meister general Amando Trovaioli.

The legendary figure of Romano Scavolini mines yet more sleazoid gold in this grimy spy thriller; while not quite as lurid as his effortlessly offensive ‘Nightmare’, it is nonetheless a profoundly rewarding excursion within the violent, murky, internecine world of international espionage.
