IMPULSE (1974)
IMPULSE (1974)

‘Impulse’  (1974) alongside the equally wondrous ‘Kingdom of Spiders’ has for many years been the holy grail for Shatnerites, and his vivid performance as the sexual predator, ‘Matt Stone’ is one of profound comedic interest. William Shatner has long been derided as an actor of somewhat limited malleability, but the bizarre architecture of his, ‘Matt Stone’ invocation is a cryptic, convoluted and entirely idiosyncratic interpretation of madness that once seen, can NEVER be forgotten. How on farting christ can any bright minded individual refuse the myriad pleasures of El Shatnoid wrestling so demonstratively with his psycho sexual ID and then remain unmoved by the Shat' being pursued so relentlessly by the rotund figure of Karate Pete, played with stoic rigidity by the ever-rigid, Harold Sataka (the probable success of any film can be improved exponentially by the inclusion of a Karate Pete character) ‘Impulse’ is an exhilarating example of how genuinely transcendent sleazeball cinema can be.
